Claire Oliver Gallery  -  West Chelsea, NY 2004

Designed to provide maximum flexibility for art display, this 5,000-square-foot two-level gallery occupies a former taxi garage in Chelsea. A sky-lit two-story addition at the rear extends a complex of public and private viewing rooms and glass-fronted offices below and above street level. A subtle canting of gallery walls differentiates display zones, offering curators greater flexibility in organizing and hanging exhibitions. Features include cast-in-place concrete slabs and walls, a free floating cast-in-place concrete stair with glass rails, and white oak millwork. Carefully considered lighting combines unified wall washers and accent spots to highlight art and direct circulation.
